Ventura County Interfaith Community – Core Committee Minutes

February 20, 2005

Hi everyone.

Thanks for joining Teri and I this afternoon to talk about interfaith in Ventura County!  Here is what I think we said.  Please feel free to point out errors or omissions, particularly with regard to the vision statement.

General thoughts:

• We will limit involvement from our local churches to a few key people
• We will meet again on Thursday, March 10^th at 7:00 PM for discussion and desert
• We will tentatively call ourselves the Ventura County Interfaith Community
• It is very important that we accommodate Lokter’s schedule

Action Items:

• Tim will contact Rabbi Locter and his friend Ashok
• Teri will contact her Muslim friend
• Linda will contact the Buddhist community
• Susan will contact the Orange County community to get a name of someone to talk to

Vision Statement:

We wrote a vision statement which is subject to revision as the group progresses:

“We want to reduce barriers to communication and foster local dialog among individuals and families of various belief traditions in Ventura County.  We imagine that dialog may include these goals:

· Learning about each other’s religions

· Exploring meditation practices of each other’s religions

· Community involvement – i.e. supporting each other’s charitable outreaches
