Ventura County Interfaith Community – Core Committee Meeting

November 17, 2005

 

·        Teri opened with a devotional

·        We discussed upcoming visits

o       The Quaker worship group visit has been canceled in deference to Ferial Masry’s award

o       Tim reported that he has tried unsuccessfully several times to get a date from St. Columbas.  Shirley will try to arrange a time at Temple Ner Ami (done – 2/23/05)

o       Scott suggested attending the Bahá’í New Years with the Persian community in Thousand Oaks on Sunday, March 19 for their New Year of March 20th and the group thought that would be a great idea

o       We will also celebrate the Buddha’s birthday with the Oxnard Buddhist Temple on April 2nd

·        Outreach

o       Tim reported that he met with CLU chaplains and that they asked that we

§         Invite students to our visits

§         Invite students to our forum

§         Consider a joint program with them in the fall on women’s issues

§         Scott suggested we look at CSUCI’s interfaith website and its covenant

o       We talked about bulletin inserts.  Temple Ner Ami, St. Columba’s, and Oxnard Buddhist Temple have monthly newsletters with deadlines on the 15th.  Tim will prepare a list of upcoming visits for these on a monthly basis.  The contact at Temple Ner Ami is Katie Glen, and Debbie Bavaro is happy to send the information on to the editor of the Oxnard Buddhist Temple newsletter.

·        Volunteerism

o       We tabled the following items:

§         Meditation classes

§         VYCF cooperation

§         Death and Dying training for health care professionals

·        Forum

o       Flyers

§         We reviewed the flyers and marked them up for changes

§         Thank you to Renée and Tim for jobs well done

§         We will print 150 of the VCIC flyers for distribution at the event

§         The following event flyers are needed

·        They should also be posted at:

o       The library in Camarillo and others around the county

o       Ventura College

·        Tim will ask Julie Morris for literature

§         Shirley will ask Charlotte Kreitzer, hospice nurse, to moderate forum (Done – Charlotte accepted).

·        Next meetings

o       December 15, 6:30 PM Potluck – Please bring your Forum speakers

o       Teri will call to remind individuals about the potluck.
