Reports:
-Ventura
California Youth Authority – Teri reported
on the delivery by Debbie Bavaro and her of
the Christmas gifts collected for the girls in the Alvarado Unit. She talked about the enthusiasm displayed by
the volunteer director and the physician.
She talked about their excitement about VCIC
sponsoring the girls for their birthdays.
She added Debbie’s idea of including a
small stipend of $20 to each girl’s spending account
as a part of their birthday gift.

Tim updated the group regarding CLU’s involvement with VCIC

Renée reported that Janice Daurio is a
philosophy instructor for CLU and is giving her students extra credit for
attending VCIC forum on death and dying

Renée, Tim and Linda are to form a subcommittee
to meet with CLU regarding fall forum

will check on borrowing folding chairs from St. Columba’s and if able to
will notify Susan for availability of pickup; otherwise, Heltons will
contact various core members to bring chairs

- Literature
to be set on tables and clarification occurred regarding what it should
contain (i.e. death, dying, and beliefs thereof). Tim and Teri will solicit death and
dying pamphlets from Quakers
- Badges
– Teri reported that Debbie Bavaro is
researching the cost of plastic engraved badges at the trophy store. Teri will report back
to Linda if purchasing permanent badges is prohibitive. If so, Linda will print labels for clear
plastic badges.
- Evaluation
of forum to occur at next core meeting. Members
to bring lists of who they contacted and what
they did to be organized into a reference notebook for the next forum(s).
- Donation
basket by door with sign designed by Susan stating what it will be applied to (i.e. CYA girl, future forums,
mailings, printings, space rental, etc.)
- Teri
to talk about CYA at Forum
- Tim reminded the group that if they have
not submitted bios for their speakers, they need to do so.
Miscellaneous:
- Tim to
create and email a contact list to core group members
- Group
discussed money needs of the future and becoming an official nonprofit
group in order to apply for grants. Susan is
going to contact a friend after March who is savvy
on acquiring nonprofit status and writing grants.
