Outreach

  • Tim will attempt to email the Imam in Newbury Park again.

Next meeting on 3/16 Roslyn will bring devotional

Forum follow up:

  • Tim reminded everyone that we owe Debbie Bavarro $5.50 for our badges. Teri will collect the money and send her a check.
  • Renée reported on registration/interest forms.
    • One individual wanted to be part of the interfaith group, but stated she had no faith tradition. Tim is going to write her a letter with members’ names and email addresses after clearing it with said members.
    • Frieda will phone those who showed interest and did not have emails
    • Tim will add those who showed interest to his email list
  • Tim reported that there was $36 in donations. The core group agreed to set it aside for the Alvarado living unit at the Ventura County Youth Correctional Facility
  • Negatives of Forum
    • Too crowded for people to have a break and refreshments or to stay after and visit with each other. We might use a CI or CLU campus room.
    • Time limited. We might consider a weekend afternoon.
    • Date was bad in relation to dignitary attendance. Teri will check on County and City officials’ calendars.
    • A couple of people felt that one of the speakers proselytized. Tim suggested it was up to the individual faith group representatives to inform speakers that we are presenting to inform, not convert.
  • Positives of Forum
    • “It was an amazing night!”
    • Susan’s write-up in the Star was wonderful! Copies were made for core group members
    • Tim reported he learned how to ‘deal’ with KHAY
    • 93 particpants in attendance
    • 29 interest slips
    • Speakers did a excellent job
    • Speakers used appropriate affect (i.e., humor, seriousness)
    • Forum marked by convivial spirit
    • Very positive audience reactions
    • Reports of people asking when and what our next forum will be
