Ventura County Interfaith Community Minutes

Devotional was brought by Tim Helton

 

Tim also announced his decision to attend Drew University in New Jersey for his Doctorate degree. He will be commuting home every periodically. Teri will remain in Camarillo.

 

Upcoming Visits and meetings, and assorted stuff:

  • Paper Clips (movie) at Temple Ner Ami – Monday, April 24, 6:30 pm
  • SGI - Commemorative Discussion Meeting and celebration – Thursday, April 27, 7 pm
  • Yom Ha Shoah at Temple Ner Ami (Remembrance of the Holocaust Victims)

Sunday, April 30, 2 to 4 pm

  • Japanese Cemetery Clean-up, Saturday, May 13, 8am to 12 noon
  • Wang Dang Doodle at Tim and Teri’s in honor of their masters graduations

Sunday, May 14, 3 to 8 pm

  • Upcoming visits:

    • July 13 – Feast of Faiths

 

Next meeting will be May 11 with Renée bringing the devotional.

 

Discussion and results thereof regarding the Feast of Faiths to be held in July followed:

  • Frieda reported on the Peking Inn which could only seat 24 to 36 people. It was decided the facility is too small for our purposes.
  • It was decided that a location or space should be found immediately and suggestions were made. Notification will be made to Teri.
    • Teri will check on using St. Columba’s Parish Hall
    • Kim will check on using a community room at Padre Sera
    • Frieda will check on using Temple Ner Ami
    • Teri and Debbie will check on Ottavio’s banquet facility
  • Frieda will also check on caterer availability at the Temple. The Temple has certain caterer they use.
  • Debbie will also check on caterer availability and prices.
  • Time line of necessary actions that must occur before the dinner was plotted:
    • July 13 -Dinner
    • June 30 - RSVPs for dinner received by (to notify caterer)
    • May 31 - Invitations to those who attended Death and Dying forum mailed
    • May 14 – Newsletters/flyers out by
    • May 11 – Renée will present flyer at meeting
    • Find location immediately
  • Other details to be determined at next meeting (May 11)
    • Table decorations
    • Name tags
    • Table talk or questions

 

Fall Forum

  • Frieda reported on status of new Camarillo library. It will not be completed until at least January or February of 2007.
  • Renée reported on how St. John’s Regional Medical Center could be used. The group suggested she put through a memo with the request for the fall, a date and approximately 100 people.
  • VCIC is waiting to hear from the Campus Interfaith group to set a date. Tim and/or Renée will report on that at a future meeting.

 

Organization

  • The Campus Interfaith Covenant was reviewed and changes suggested. Renée will retype it to meet the suggestions by May 11 for the meeting.
  • It was determined that a change in organization is needed based on Tim going to Drew University for his Doctorate and not being available to run the VCIC core group meetings. The following positions were agreed upon:
    • Chair – Teri
    • Vice chair – Debbie
    • Secretary or recorder – Renée
    • Email notices – Teri
    • Snail mail (Shirley, Frieda, and Ken Ueda) – Debbie
